After being unable to make it across to Birmingham a number of times, I was finally able to be a part of Kevin Buckland's ambient music night (29/07/2018), held at the delightful Ort Cafe on Moseley Road. Kevin also recorded the set, which gave me my first ever fully recorded live performance to share beyond the confines of the venue at the time. I used the gig as an opportunity to try out a few new ideas and move away from complete improvisation. Some things remain rough, and others turned out better than expected. Whatever happens during my live shows are usually as much a surprise for me as they are to the audience listening.

I didn't spend much time editing these recordings. The sound of the room was important to this performance, capturing the rattling caused by low frequencies and the distant sounds of pedal clicks or even the acoustic sound of a bow against guitar strings. Small mistakes, wrong notes and miscues are retained. Aside from a single cough and the odd rustling, the attention of the audience is captured in their silence.

Thanks to Kevin for organising the night and proving me with this recording, to the welcoming staff at Ort, and to the audience who came and listened intently. Great to meet fellow drone-er Phil Maguire, who also played a great set. I even managed to catch a little of Art Banymandhub's set before having to dash for the last train.
