NO REVERB WAS USED IN THE MAKING OF THIS EP

Fără o Frelungire a Sunetului - Without the prolongation of sound

Yesterday (15/07), Edward Trethowan (Net) and I were discussing our as of yet untitled EP that we're collaborating on, and the issues of resonance within ambient music during the mixing and mastering stages; reverb being an effect we as musicians tend to add to the extreme in ambient, drone, and experimental music. As a joke, Ed had suggested I try to make something without using any reverb at all. The joke became a self-issued challenge that I accepted to complete within a week.

While mixing down a single track this morning (16/07) for a compilation by Assembly Field out later this year, I started messing around with my usual chain of guitar and objects into a pedal board. I removed the usual lengthy reverberant EQD Afterneath, and dialled out any of the multiple instances of reverb on the Zoom MS-70CDR and began playing, looping, and droning. What struck me first is how reliant I have become on reverb as a way of enhancing my guitar playing and also as a method of masking my inaccuracies, of which there are many. In order to record something that would be enjoyable to listen to, I had to adapt my playing in a number of ways, and really focus on getting the performance aspect of recording as a solo musician to a higher standard.

Before I knew it, a new EP was brought into existence, without any reverb used during the recording or mixing stages.

EP and song titles translated into Romanian. 'Without the prolongation of sound', I II III IV, Part 1 Part 2 etc. are a little dull.
